Why require kids to learn calculus, trigonometry and chemistry if they'll have no practical need for it in adult life? It's a waste of system resources as well as a negative draw for students. My sense is that kids inherently know this. Until the education system gets kids interested and on board in the education process, force feeding will continue to produce the usual results.
