American Idol Season 9
So, it’s time for another season of American Idol. And it’s love/hate for me this season. Here’s why…
So, I love the show. I love the format…for the most part. But I was never exactly in love with Paula’s performance. Apparently, neither were the show’s producers. So, what do they do? They bring in Kara. For me, she’s the better judge (because she actually gives real, actionable feedback. Paula usually avoided the uncomfortable by focusing on the contestant’s appearance.)
But…as refreshing as Kara is, the 4 judge system has never worked (for those of you who remember Season 2).
When I heard that Paula was leaving the show because the producers lowballed her, I got excited again. Too bad my excitement lasted for about 10 minutes. My heart sunk when I found out that Ellen would be joining the cast at the judges table.
What are they thinking?
Having 3 judges at the table is better, almost magically correct number for two big reasons. 1) It gives each judge more time to comment. And 2) it’s exciting to hear that Randy doesn’t care for the performance, while Paula does. And then it’s up to Simon to split the vote.
My other big beef with Ellen is Ellen. What is she really bringing to the table? Viewers? I don’t think so.
Is Idol really hurting for viewers? No. (And I doubt Ellen can bring in an audience that doesn’t already exist at this point.)
Does the show need comic relief? No. And I think we all remember the Nick/Norman Gentle fiasco last season.
And–above all else–other than singing “just keep swimming” in Finding Nemo, what credentials does Ellen have?

How to Get Rid of Hemorrhoids
December 27, 2009 by Dunkin · 4 Comments
Hemorrhoids are dilated veins, or varicose veins, located inside of the anal canal (internal hemorrhoids), or at the anal opening (external hemorrhoids). Luckily there are viable treatments for hemorrhoids and in most cases they can be prevented. Since the condition of hemorrhoids almost always tends to get worse over time, safe, gentle and effective treatments for hemorrhoids are encouraged as soon as they show up.
At some time in their lives, almost 90% of American have problems with hemorrhoids. Hemorroids made Napoleon ride side-saddle, put star baseball player George Brett on the bench during the World Series of 1980 and put then-president Jimmy Carter in the operating room. Medical statistics show that over 67% of adults going for physical examinations are found have hemorrhoids.
It is strongly advised to start treating hemorrhoids and their causes when they first become known. Somewhere out there there is a natural remedy for hemorrhoids that will get great results for you (try clicking on the link in this sentence!)
You can easily find over-the-counter preparations that will probably afford you temporary relief. However, your goals should be to first find out what caused your hemorrhoids and remove these causitive factors, then find and begin a course of treatment designed to permanently cure your hemrrhoidal condition
You can see more about one natural hemorrhoid treatment that has worked for thousands, if you Click Here
You could also just ignore your hemroid problem until it gets really bothersome. Many do this, but most end up regretting it later. It’s fairly easy to treat and correct hemorrhoid problems at the outset.
Neglected and left alone, the problem can grow to where it is beyond simple, easy solutions. If they get bad enough, expensive (and painful) surgery may be your only alternative…

Top 3 Tips for Taking Great Pictures with Digital Cameras
December 24, 2009 by Dunkin · 4 Comments
There are many tips for taking great pictures with digital cameras. Many individuals believe that taking pictures digitally requires no specific skill or prior knowledge, but the truth is that digital based cameras integrate a high level of features that makes it challenging to capture pictures in the way that you want, or the way that you expect. By knowing a few tricks, you can capture beauty in every shot that you take. The following represents 3 tips that you can use in order to truly capture the essence of every photo that you take:
1. Many digital cameras come with preset balance settings such as “Beach”, “Sunny”, “Cloudy”, “Night”, and similar settings. Prior to taking pictures, it is important to learn how to access these balance settings and to experiment with each one. This way, when you indulge in taking pictures you will know which balance setting will compliment the photograph and can set the camera to that setting.
2. Do you enjoy taking a lot of pictures of the great outdoors or of people and places outside? If so, then it is likely that you will benefit from what is referred to as a “Polarizer”. This is a special filter that is often used when photographing landscapes and natural scenes. It works to reduce the amount of glare that is displayed in the image and even eliminates reflections that are not intended to be caught. If you are unable to acquire a polarizer filter, simply place a lens from a pair of old sunglasses over the viewing area of the camera – this will provide the same effect.
3. The next step to taking great pictures with digital cameras is to research the zoom mode on your camera. This is also often referred to as “Macro Mode”. This feature will permit you to take pictures of items that are typically hard to capture in close up. For example, you may capture a line of ants, or a flower in your garden.
It is easy to take great pictures with digital cameras. It may seem a bit overwhelming, but it is important to learn all that you can regarding the features of your camera. Once you know what can be done with it, you may incorporate these top 3 tips to capture some fascinating shots!

CNC Lathe And Metal Lathe
December 12, 2009 by Dunkin · 2 Comments
A CNC lathe is a machine that can spins material to do a variety of operations like sanding, drilling, cutting or sanding. Usually a lathe is used for more intricate cuts and Today, they replace the older multispindle lathes because they are easier to set up and operate.
Each CNC lathe has a computer control that allows the machine to be controlled electronically, and this program can be modified to do a variety of things. When an operator runs a CNC lathe they have to have a lot of skill to understand the programs and how the programs to do the work.
The point of using a CNC lathe is to make a piece of material that is symmetrical and beautiful. This is done by placing the material in a machine and allowing that piece to be spun until it reaches the specification that was programmed into the computer. The cutting tools then move around it on the Z and X axis to cut away the material that isn’t needed to make the piece.
The process that the CNC lathe does is called turning and it can do a variety of shapes when it goes through the full process. Many machines are used to create a plain surface to make contour shapes, to taper the ends of some pieces and it makes threaded surfaces. You can also turn metal so that you can create rods bushes, pulleys or other shapes that are needed. In some industries they use a CNC lathe to fabricate parts that may have a cross section that is to move in a circular motion.
The CNC mini lathe is a good choice for people who want to experiment with what these machines will do, inventors or for people who specialize in making models. The CNC mini lathes are good for metalworking in general and for making small parts that need to be made with precision. Generally speaking the individual starts with a mini-lathe that they buy and then convert it to do CNC.
Many plans that you can find on the Internet will allow both manual and CNC abilities in the conversion because there are times when an individual is working with the machine that they may elect to do some processes by hand. At other times they may want to use CNC capabilities to produce repetitive pieces or ones that require a lot of time manually.
To convert to CNC you will need to understand either CAD or CAM software because currently these are the types of software that is used in the CNC mini-lathe machines. Usually you can control the lathe right from your PC because the software is created to run in that way. Generally it seems that you can make this conversion for under $2000.
There is also CNC engraving equipment which is used for engraving a variety of materials and are more accurate that any manual engraving could be. They are widely used for signage lettering for both large and small projects.
You can find might variations of lathes within the metalworking field. You will feel that some variations are not really that obvious, and other are more to a niche area. For example, a centering lathe is a double head machine where the work stays fixed and the heads move towards the workpiece and machines a center drill hole in every end. The appearing workpiece might then be used between centers for another operation. The usage of the term metal lathe might as well measured to some extent outdated these days, plastics and other composite materials are in huge use and with appropriate modifications, the same principles and methods might further be applied to their workholding machining as used for metal.

Your Dog Grooming Books
December 11, 2009 by Dunkin · 7 Comments
Dog grooming books are a great learning material for people who want to groom their pets at home without having to regularly pay for professional services. Moreover, dog grooming books represent a good course support for anyone who takes classes or attends a training program to get certification and licensing. The number of publications is very large, and you may have difficulties choosing. The material can be ordered on eBay, but only after you check reviews and the author. E-guides are very easy to access dog grooming books because they can be downloaded directly from a web page. Here are a few tips to make selection easier.
Clearly state your objectives before purchasing dog grooming books. Do you you want to learn how to take care of your pet or do you plan to open a business? In case you want to develop skills for business purposes it is worth mentioning the fact that studying dog grooming books is not enough; you’ll need qualifications from an institution specialized in dog grooming training. Then, check the list of contents! Most books are general in the approach, because they apply to different dog breeds. In case there is a grooming process that challenges you more than the rest, search dog grooming books dedicated to ear cleaning, hair cutting, nail trimming and coat brushing.
Finding mastiff puppies for sale, finding the right mastiff kennels and much much more you will find in mastiff secrets.
Dog grooming books can be more or less details on the topic that interests you. There should be chapters, sub-chapters, topics and subtopics included for just one subject alone to actually get comprehensive information. Depending on the author and the aim of the book, some materials focus more on equipment and supplies, others on grooming methods while many have a general content. Don’t neglect the importance of specialized books, individual publications that tackle with one topic alone definitely match professional requirements.
There are dog grooming books that focus on short-haired breeds only, while others cover medium and long-haired breeds. Cuts for heavy coats make a very popular subject that you’ll come across in lots of dog grooming books, because even for professionals there is something new to learn. Last but not least, certain breeds have physiological peculiarities that require special grooming. This is the case with dog breeds that have hair in the eyes. Someone inexperienced may feel inclined to cut it so as to improve vision, but this could be really detrimental for the dog’s eye health. Good dog grooming books teach you how not to make such blunders!
Be sure not to hurt yourself when giving people money
December 5, 2009 by Dunkin · 7 Comments
With the latest recession there are a lot of young adults who are seriously cash strapped. They’re still paying off student loans, but also now have to pay a mortgage, credit cards and auto loans. Many of them are without jobs. They are turning to their parents for help. Should you help them?
Here’s a few things to consider:
Are you financially well off despite the down economy to help your kids without hurting yourself? We know that a lot of people want to save money and give it to their kids upon their death, and that’s because when you’re gone to don’t need it. If you give it to them now you’re potentially jeopardizing your own retirement future. Even so far as to mean that you have to go back to work to pay for your children.
Are your kids being irresponsible or is it just bad luck? There’s something to be said for learning the tough lessons, but if your kids already know about spending wisely and just got in a bind because of poor luck and bad timing then helping them is mentally easier. If you’re just bailing out a kid who never learned how to live within his means then you’re only enabling more bad behavior and you’ll be on the hook forever.
Are you able to give them assistance tax free? The government allows you to gift a certain amount to each member of your family without them having to pay taxes on it. I think this year its about $13,000. If your kids need more than this then they may have to pay taxes on whatever you give them above this mark. That tax burden could be an issue for them in April.
Whatever you decide just be sure that you aren’t ruining your own life. There’s a reason the airlines ask you to put your own oxygen mask on first.

A GUIDE TO WOOD FLOORING
November 21, 2009 by Dunkin · 9 Comments
Wood flooring is beautiful and increases the value of your home. They continue to be loved more than stone flooring or slate flooring. Wood has depth and warmth that looks great and gives your home a warm feeling.
A variety of choices are available in both hard woods and other wood types. The type of wood you will choose depends on your personal preference and the décor of your home. Wood is suitable for nearly every room in your home. It may not be best in kitchens and bathrooms due to the amount of moisture found in these areas.
Choices in Wood Flooring: Hardwood remains a popular choice in wood floors. You have the choice of several different hardwoods. Popular choices include oak, cherry, hickory, maple, walnut and bellawood. These can be stained a variety of shades and tones. Consider leaving the wood in its natural color. Some hardwoods, such as walnut and cherry have a rich tone without the need for staining.
Once you have chosen the material, consider your finishing options. You may decide to purchase pre finished wood. This is already stained and protected with a clear coating. Pre finished is generally more expensive, but saves a significant amount of time.
Another option is to install the floor and then finish the wood. You will need to sand, stain and urethane the floor. After each coat, the floor will need to be sanded. This process takes several days to complete. The more coats of urethane you need the better protected the surface.
Another option is distressed or reclaimed flooring. These floors don’t have a smooth texture. However, they are beautiful and have character unlike other finishes. Another major benefit of these is they won’t show scratches as easily as urethane floors.
You have some choices other than traditional hardwood. Laminate flooring offers a choice in flooring. These are made to resemble real hardwood at a lower price. With good quality laminates, it can be difficult to tell the difference between this and real hard wood. Companies such as Armstrong flooring make high quality laminates. Other choices include cork flooring or bamboo floors.
Caring for Wood Flooring: Proper care will ensure your wood flooring has a good, long life. Whether you choose hardwood, laminate or other options, the care is basically the same.
Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to keep dirt and dust to a minimum. Dirt and grit on the floor wear away the surface and leave scratches in your floor.
Use mats at the entrances to your home. This way feet can be wiped, preventing much of this dirt from entering your home in the first place.
Lightly clean the floor when needed. If occasional mopping is needed, use a nearly dry mop. Too much water can seep between the slats and damage your floor. This can cause warping, damage the surface or cause water to become trapped under the floor. This can result in damage to the backing and mold can grow under the floor.

The Atkins Low Carb Diet – Does It Work?
November 8, 2009 by Dunkin · 5 Comments
The Atkins low carbohydrate diet was the brain-child of Dr. R. C. Atkins who claimed that it would initiate a greater weight loss than a conventional, low calorie diet composed of a “balance” of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
A study was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2003 in which the investigators’ aim was to conduct a controlled experiment to determine the differences in weight loss of both obese men and women who consumed either the basic low carbohydrate Atkins diet or a conventional diet of reduced total calories. The study lasted for one year.
Besides weight loss, a number of other tests also were conducted, including blood sugar, blood cholesterol, HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol), insulin levels, and blood pressure.
The results were interesting and different than most traditional nutritionists would have expected.
As Dr. Atkins had claimed all along, after 3 months, the volunteers who ate the Atkins diet lost 7-10% of their original body weight while those who ate the conventional low-calorie diet only lost 3-5% of their original weight.
After 6 months, the results were similar to those at 3 months; however, after one year, those on the Atkins diet had regained enough weight so that differences in weight loss between the two diets were not significant.
Another interesting result supported the view of the traditional nutritionists in that total serum cholesterol was increased about 3% while those fed the conventional diet had reduced their cholesterol about 5%.
Side Note: Shopping online for comfortable womens dress shoes can save the time and hassles of visiting your local shopping mall. There is a large variety of womens dress shoes on the market today to choose from. Another option when looking to buy comfortable women’s dress shoes is Amazon.
Neither diet affected blood sugar, blood pressure, or insulin levels, although the insulin levels of those consuming the Atkins diet tended to be lower than of those consuming the low calorie conventional diet.
The final results of the study suggested that volunteers who consume the Atkins diet may initially lose weight faster than those consuming the conventional diet, but after a long period of consuming the diets, the differences may be lost.

Why Wear Scrubs?
November 7, 2009 by Dunkin · 8 Comments
If you go into a dentist, eye doctor, hospital or just about any medical related institution you see hundreds of employees in scrubs. Some private practices all wear the same color scrubs. It is the uniform of the medical field. So why do they all wear scrubs.
Doctors and others practicing use to just wear anything that they were currently wearing when practicing medicine but then due to the awareness of sanitation they realized they had to wear something different. They moved on to wearing aprons when perform certain procedures but since they were white and many medical procedures have to do with cutting they would get blood on them and look bad. This made them move to green uniforms that eventually became scrubs.
Now a days you see many brands such as Dickies Scrubs and just about any pattern and color of scrubs you can imagine. In fields dealing with children it is common to see the nurses and secretaries wearing cartoon and child related themes which make going to the doctors office a little easier for children since the workers don’t seem as scary.
Scrubs are universal in the medical industry and are very comfortable and durable material. This makes the long hours they have to put in easier and after much use they stay in good shape and don’t have to be replaced to often, keeping costs down.
