Andrew Carnegie the philantropist and Scottish American gave away millions of dollars each year (and still does through his charitable trusts) promoting education and world peace.

However many people believe he was also a person who planned the murder of strikers in his factories in order to bring about his own riches.

Born and brought up in Dunfermline Scotland Andrew Carnegie‘s father and uncle were being constantly attacked for their radical political attitudes and actions. As leaders in the Chartist movement they were fighting for the right of the working class to vote and stand for election in the belief that this would bring about a fairer future for the world. At this time only the richer people were allowed to do these things. Only property owners were able to have their name on the electoral register to vote so only they would be able to represent the people and of course were able to maintain power and influence.

The only way to give this power to the workers was by removing it from the rich who also in that area included the factory owners. Consequently the family were all blacklisted from gaining employment locally.

When Andrew Carnegie was only 13 years old the family decided to sell up everything they had left basically their furniture and borrowed money from other Chartist supporters and emigrated to the USA ending up in Pittsburgh.

However this was an opportunity for Carnegie to prove himself moving from his job as bobbin boy in a weaving factory he became a telegraph operator and attracted the eye of his employer who promoted him and took him to the big city as personal secretary. Possibly through insider trading knowledge and smart investing skills Andrew Carnegie amassed a small fortune to enable him to acquire his first steel works. When he later sold his steel interests he personally pocketed over 350 million dollars.

However his drive and ambition for new technology meant he was often in conflict with unions as he cut wages and introduced longer works to drive up profitability and win contracts eventually buying up most of his competitors.

Andrew Carnegie appointed Frick as business manager of his steel works was also known as a hard nosed business man when it came to fighting unions and they often brought in Pinkerton’s Detective Agency to defend their position. Pinkerton’s over the years had become the people to turn to when you wanted gunmen to fight strikes and had acquired a reputation for being violent in the way they handled themselves. The agency had even bombed a union HQ in Chicago and had been involved in a number of killings of strike leaders.

Andrew Carnegie at this time went back to Scotland for half a year at a time so he was present during the Homestead Steel Works dispute but we have come across cables sent between him and Frick the General Manager where he clearly supported “doing whatever was necessary to win the fight”. 10 men died on this occasion during a long gun battle but it led to the union collapse and a return to work. Andrew Carnegie immediately cut the wages again introduced a longer working week and ensured 500 men who were involved in the strike leadership would never again work in the steel mill.

Blacklisted from employment after being branded a troublemaker by rich factory owners rings bells with how Carnegies own family was punished so he obviously learnt some lessons, didn’t he? You can read the full story on http://scottishjerk.com/09/andrew-carnegie-murderer/ and vote in our poll at the same time.

Have you been wondering about what the best method to combat the signs of aging is? If so, then you should considering getting a Chicago facelift.

There are plenty of anti-aging methods available on the market today, including Botox. However facelifts have been around a long time, but what exactly are they?

Other types of procedures may be combined with a facelift in order to provide the best results to a patient. Basically a surgical tightening of the face and neck is the entirety of what a facelift does.

But what makes you the ideal candidate for getting a facelift? First off, you need to have good elasticity of your skin.

There are certain risks, as well as some uncertainties when it comes to what exactly to expect when getting a facelift. One of the primary risks is of developing a hematoma, which is blood which collects under the skin, however this is rare.

Smokers should think twice before going through Chicago cosmetic surgery. Smoking can reduce the ability of the skin to heal after receiving a facelift.

Recovery time before you are up and about is as little as two days. Regular activities can be resumed in as little as two weeks.

The College of the United States (one of the future colleges in Chicago) will strive to create global leaders of tomorrow capable of fulfilling the vision of our Founding Fathers by becoming successful men and women of principle and action, effective in spreading the benefits of reason and individualism, and the bounty of liberty worldwide through their work and their example.

We believe many students are aware that current influential ideologies do not reflect their values. Epistemological and ethical relativism, big-government mandated economics, entitlement politics and hostility to American values reign in Academia and ‘higher’ culture. These students are looking for alternatives to the typical colleges and universities in Chicago and the College of the United States will make that possible.

In addition to covering all traditional subjects, our curriculum is specifically designed to teach thinking skills, and how to powerfully integrate ideas and information by using the principles of philosophy.

Our graduates will be prepared to excel in their fields of choice due to their training in the comprehensive, integrative power of philosophy, highly developed creative thinking skills, broad knowledge in the humanities and sciences, and extensive real-world experience.

Rarely do schools specifically train and nurture students in thinking skills per se. This is the goal of the College of the United States.

Training for life (and work) is only possible by experiencing an education that enables the individual to continue educating himself. Adaptability is mankind’s greatest survival tool made possible by the reasoning and imaginative mind; preparing the student for all life’s variety and challenge is the sine qua non of education.

Like so many other families that haven’t taken a holiday for a couple years, watching our cash because of the economy. My sister’s son and my only nephew asked his girlfriend to wed him and that is’s all it took! We found out the day the wedding was going to be held, my husband and I both had paid vacation time coming from work so we made a decision to go to the wedding and make it a holiday as well. So when it came time we packed out bags, loaded everything up and hit the road.

This was no short trip. It was close to 1200 miles back to my home city in Illinois so there was lots of time spent on the road. Sadly not all of our problems got left behind at home. After several hours of sitting and driving the 1st day I had began sensed some lower abdominal discomfort. Being perfectly truthful I believed it was a combination of being anxious, excitement and maybe just sitting for too much time. But by the end of our first day the discomfort had become worse. When we stopped for the evening I attempted to relax and stretch out some, hoping that it would improve, but there was no change. It got so bad I though we might have to go to a nearest emergency room. I decided to try to get a good nights sleep and make the decision in the morning. Before going to bed I called my mother to inform her where we had stopped and what was happening with me. After describing the symptoms I was having and Mom told me she had the very same symptoms when she was having problems with ovarian cysts. She additionally told me about some of the different treatment of ovarian cysts and how this one natural cure worked best for her. So I decided to go to the emergency room that night, simply to make sure what was taking place.

I’m certain each and every one of you have experienced visiting the emergency room at one point during your life or another. Well, the one we went to was phenomenally stuffed. Let me tell you, pain or no discomfort, sitting in a room full of sick and wounded folks wasn’t a superb atmosphere. The combination of all these elements actually pushed my anxiety. As time went by with folks coming out and in consistently, waiting to be seen while experiencing a great amount of discomfort it was finally enough and I began experiencing a panic attack. All I wanted to do was get out of there, agony or no discomfort. I have to admit, if it wasn’t for the help my hubby had given me, in addition to the skills I had learned about overcoming panic attacks I honestly believe I would have walked out. Eight hours later I left feeling a little better so far as the pain. The anxiety and panic had gotten better and the ultrasound confirmed I had an ovarian cyst. There was no cause for alarm though I recieved a prescription for pain if required, some guidelines on stuff to keep clear of and told to check in with my family doctor when we got back home.

We made it to Chicago and over the following days the discomfort decreased. I continued experiencing a little anxiety, but it was more anticipation about what precisely was going on. In fact one night we all gathered together and went out to eat at one of our favorite cafes. This is the type of food you simply cannot pick up in the south where we live, so we all did quite a bit over eating during that evening. My husband went slightly more overboard then he should have. I could tell as he mentioned that he required one of his remedies for heartburn before we even even made it back to our room. We laughed at it, but the rest of the night he was in not feeling very well because of his acid reflux and heartburn.

All in all it definitely was a excellent time. The wedding was beautiful and went smoothly without any problems. It had been a event to recollect. Essentially the entire vacation was something to recollect. Eventhough it started off a little rocky but the time was spent well surrounded by family and old friends that we hadn’t visited with in years. That most likely was one of the finest vacations the my family and I took in a long time.

Please note that I am not a Doctor, have no medical training and that the above comments are offered only as opinion. You should always consult a Doctor before beginning any type of program or taking any advice relating to a medical issue!
