FDA Recall Prompts Darvocet Lawsuits

March 7, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

All prescription medications explicitly post warnings of any possible side effects, as do most over-the-counter medicines. Darvocet was no different, with cautions about experiencing possible drowsiness, and the internal consequences of mixing painkillers with alcohol. While serious and not to be ignored, those warnings left out the most deadly consequence. Possible death from heart problems or failure prompted an FDA recall, and has resulted in many ongoing Darvocet lawsuits.

Like many prescription drugs, it had been marketed originally under the premise that it was non-addicting and safe. Darvon itself is known as a combination analgesic, which joins acetaminophen, a popular over-the-counter pain reliever, with Darvon, containing the active ingredient propoxyphene. Considered a safe medication for those suffering from mild to moderate post-surgical pain, it was first prescribed to the public in 1957.

More than twenty-two million people have been given this drug by their physicians, making it one of the most prescribed pain-killers worldwide. Even though it is supposedly non-addictive, it is actually a mild narcotic, and some people have experienced physical dependence. As a pain reliever, it is effective, but not enough to warrant risking the potentially deadly side-effects. Between 1987 and 2006 it accounted for nearly 5% of all drug-related fatalities.

Unfortunately, the possibility of fatal interactions or effects, including possible suicide or overdose, were known about years before the actual recall took place. The UK discontinued prescribing the drug after investigations pointed out deadly heart rhythm abnormalities in those regularly using it. In the United States, however, doctors continued to prescribe it for another five years, even after the reports of problems had been presented.

Due to adverse reports listing harmful side-effects, the Food and Drug Administration requested a new series of clinical trials in 2007. Not surprisingly, the agency found that many of the possible adverse reactions were simply too severe, and recommended that doctors stop prescribing it. The investigation linked Darvocet to a greatly slowed heartbeat, cardiac depression, interruption of the electrical impulses to the heart, and a failure of proper heart muscle contraction.

The recommendation impacted over ten million patients in the United States who relied on a prescription containing some form of the active ingredient propoxyphene. Many patients have chosen to take legal action against the manufacturer, claiming it knew about the problems, but continued to make the drug anyway. They seek compensation for physical damage, financial loss, and emotional distress resulting from the preventable death of a loved one.

People who suspect that they or their loved ones may have been hurt by taking this medication should follow this process closely, because it may affect them personally. Nothing can undo the damages already done, but there may be monetary and non-monetary damages awarded as a result, and some may wish to file their own Darvocet lawsuits. If your mental and physical health has been negatively affected by taking this drug, you may be entitled to possible future compensation.

When a business is not performing the first line of defence tends to be company finances, using financial management software allows companies the chance to increase profit margins even in difficult marketplace. Can the financial software employed make a difference to the perfomance of a business in a downturn?

It is possible that the case is being overstated that financial management software can be responsible for amazing changes in a companies profitability, but it is not a lie to promote the idea that that it can bring about a radical change for the better in an organisations prospects. It is also fair to say that if used correctly it will provide a roadmap to how a business can avoid the worst of a difficult trading situation and perhaps even prosper in a recession.  Of course not all financial management software is created equally and it is not being suggested that a program created to manage a home budget will change the fortunes af a large business, what it is is a powerful business application that has indepth reporting and forecasting for business?

Todays programs are more than just accounting software and definately about more than just managing a bank balance.  Actually it is used to provide in depth information as a basis for key strategic business decisions, because the software can provide accurate and timely information in reports that can be relied on it is essential in future planning, informing decision makers of the areas of business where savings can be made and how those savings can be made.  Savings are only one area where reporting can help, profit reporting can show how and where margins can be improved, the combination of cutting costs, making savings and increasing margins is the basis of how using financial management software can turn the failing business around to be a succesful and lean operation. Picking which software would be the best fit for your business is not always easy.

*Integration; it is a neccessity for the software to integrate sealessly with existing business applications.
*Expandable; if neccessary a modular program that can greow to a full suite of ERP applications is idea.

Enter a Songwriting Contest in 2009

May 30, 2009 by · 2 Comments

If you have ever dreamed of writing a hit song, the first thing you should consider is entering a songwriting contest. That is perhaps the best way to get started in the music business.  When you are writing song lyrics and composing the music, you should meditate and let it come from within you.  If you were good at poetry in school, then you probably already have a natural ability to play off of for a songwriting contest.  This venue gives you some exposure to professional people in the music business.  If you have a good idea for a song, you should consider preparing it for a contest so you can let it be heard.

Some common mistakes novice songwriters make is trying to make their song sound like another song.  This is your song, and it should reflect your inner self.  If you have a cause you care about or you are into current events, those are great ways to brainstorm and come up with ideas for lyrics and music.  Depending on what type of personality you are, you may like to start with the lyrics, then add the music.  Other songwriters have a tune in their head that they add lyrics to later.  No matter which way you go, getting involved in a songwriting contest is the best way to get your voice heard about a cause or whatever moves you.

Some things you can do to improve your songwriting skills and have a better chance at winning in a songwriting competition are write about what you know, learn about what a verse, chorus and a bridge are and how you can best utilize them within your song, keep the title as short and catchy as you can (using a double meaning for your title and in the chorus is very catchy), keep your song at around 3 to 4 minutes and watch your grammar for mixing up your past, present and future tenses (this gets confusing to the listener).  Now, go have fun, practice some fun lyrics and be creative, then test out your song ideas and forms with family and friends.  After that, you will be ready to enter a songwriting contest where you can win money, prizes, recording contracts or a combination of products or services.  Life is a dance and people need a good song for dancing – why shouldn’t they dance to yours?
